something that I am sure of...

Not sure what it is but I guess it is just an age thing. Or a brain thing. I go to bed pretty exhausted, as I like to do, and then a few hours later, I am awake, after some fantastical dream, and unable to sleep again. I feel that 4 or 5 hours of sleep is not quite enough, yet I lie there awake and restless. This morning I ended up on the computer to do some research and realized that my blog has been idle for over 2 years!
Now, one must wonder, does this matter? I would guess only to myself at this point. Not sure that anyone has read the first two posts, but maybe we can get something going here. We'll see. Not working at a job right now, so maybe I will be able to stay at it, although it does seem that my days are full and time passes quickly. No sense of free time piling up as there are always a number of things on the list of things to get done, tasks to be completed, errands to run, items to clean or repair, improvements to be made to the home or life arrangement.
Anyway, the thought for the day is in regards to the quote "There is no one right way to live". I was considering what it was I could be entirely sure of and this quote comes pretty close.
Looking for this quote on the internet yields information it comes from a book called Ishmael by Daniel Quinn as found on here: http://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/10330.Daniel_Quinn. Included in my search are many, many references to this quote, thought or idea, in every topic from weight lifting ("there is no one right way to weight train.") to grief ("there is no "one right way" to grieve.") to web sites ("There is no, one, right way to do social media.) In most of these instances, the writer likes to point out immediately after this statement that the are plenty of wrong ways to do these, and many other, tasks.
To me, this is inherently negative and defeating - and possibly becoming too much a part of our societal psyche at this point. It defeats the thinker and leads to preventing them from believing that they have one of the right ways that it can be done, and proceeding with instinctual confidence. If there is "no one right way" then how could they possibly have a right way? They can't and probably have one of the "wrong ways" they may think to themselves.
For myself, I would prefer to think of it, and have the solid confidence that the one sure thing is that "there are many right ways to live" (or do anything!) We have to stop thinking negatively and finding the positive, communal ways of thinking and building a better world. We can use any of these many right ways and get things done to improve our lot. In fact, living in an infinite universe, it is pretty hard to imagine that it all comes down to one way, or one thing. There has to be an infinite number or ways, and as many good ways as bad.
Anyway, I would like to re-quote Daniel Quinn here, and hope that it is picked up by writers and quoters, as follows:
The one thing that I can be sure of is that there are many right ways".
Cheers and have a great day!

obama vs. harper

Sheeeite!! day two and trying to stay on top of all this writing! talk about needing to work hard.

here it is at the end of a long day and trying to get a few thoughts down before I head to bed and keep reading about Barack Obama's interestingly varied life. The more I read the more faith I have in what he may bring to the table. It certainly seems that he has been put through his paces on trying to understand not only the racism question, but also many personal questions and life questions. Not through doing the same old usual steps, but through his personally derived, and self-generated quest. When feeling that something wasn't right, or if there were ome possibilty or opportunity, he would take a look, take his chances, try something different, move somewhere new, open up a new perspective, in order to not strengthen a point that he had been served, but to develop greater onderstanding of himself and those around him by strengthening his experience and knowledge of everything. outside of his very polished writing style, he is very much a denizen of this lonely planet and is not afraid to both try things and admit that he has tried them. In fact, I recommend this for anyone that wants to truly understand what position that anyone may find themselves in. if you have never been drunk, how can you really know what it feels like. if you have never been descriminated against, how can you understand the emotions linked to that position. if you have never had to work from the bottom up, how can you understand what it takes to be a person trying to survive, even in the strongest economy in the world.

i'm impressed by him and endeavour to carry the hope that he has inspired in his fellow countrymen. it is far greater than what is currently occurring in Canada right now. I don't think that anyone has been inspired by our current leader of Parliament. stalling the whole process the way he has now, unable to articulate the correct position that the Speaker of House holds, incorrect about the facts of events and spouting off about them incorrectly and repeatedly is really a huge embarrassment - and a small part of even further proof of the inappropriateness of his appointment as the so-called leader of our befuddled country. If he really had belief in himself, and knew that he had the most pro-active position to move forward with in Paliament, there would be no question of stalling, there would be no question of waiting for the inevitable in the New Year. He would just get on with it now and everyone would believe in him too. But, as he has no integrity, or the character that follows with that personal virtue, he is now into playing the same, if not worse games than the so-called illegal coalition. what he seems to forget is that the opposition parties were also elected to parliament and if they so choose to work together to make a government, then they have every legal right to do so. if the hapless conservatives knew how to work with others and play their cards correctly, they would not find themselves in a position of only being able to sling more arrows across the floor of the commons. but with a puny leader that stephen harper has proven himself to be, the conservatives continue to live in a huge bubble of delusion that there is no bottom to their ever-upward mobile economic ways.

anyway, i'm getting lost in a world that is now on "harper-hold" and is not much worth talking about until much later. so back to the boook......

virgin posting

whoa! I'm an actual blogger now!! what a revelation - becoming part of the on-line community of writers and diarists, sending thoughts and stories out in the netherworld of the internet.

Now I gotta figure out what is going on and what to say. too bad I can't just hook a flash drive staright into my brain and download thoughts and all the crazy dreams that I have on a nightly basis. I guess this is going to be much more work than that - as are all things in life!

I would start there in fact. how much work it is to exist in this fantastic universe. there is no letting up, no cruising, no passing time, if one is going to get the most out of their time here. it is a constant effort, no matter what position you have, where you are born, what you make in salary every year, what you have been given to start with. we keep looking for that golden ket where we get off and don't have to do anything to survive. where we get a free pass and a lay-z-boy chair to sit in a get served our tv dinner while we watch the latest re-runs of our favourite shows.

I think the greatest difference would be made if all people were to understand the basic precept that we need to WORK while on this planet - actually, if laziness were banned altogether!

anyway, there is so much that could be said on this one little subject (or seemingly little subject) that I won't be able to cover it all here on my first post. I look forward to trying to combat all the aspects of this commonly accepted disease that has not been studied for a cure. If there was an acceptance pill that people could take to understand what it takes to be a full human being on this planet, from the effort it takes to stay healthy without damaging the planet, to how hard it is to come up with new ideas and positions and communicate these successfully to other peoplem, then we might be much further ahead in creating a planet where all humans could exist in a more peaceful, healthy and happy condition than we currently do.

more soon......
